Hi Connie,

I appreciate you keeping track of us wayward Foothillers.  My feet are itchy again and a very lucrative assignment is going to take me to Moscow and the oilfields of SouthernRussia.  It could last up to four or more years and it will be my final big job if I can make sure I live through it.  We will keep the house in Anchorage as my wife will stay here and we will get together when I have R&R.s.  The assignment is something that I have coveted for years and it may be my swan song;l  Take care of all those California types.

Hello,

Getting excited about the all-class reunion. I am going to ride my motorcycle down from Castlegar BC. Will take a little time and visit the Redwoods and stay will my friend from high school, Judy Absher (Free).

Please put my name on the alumni contact list. My memory is not so good with names but maybe someone will remember me. Although I did go to the movies with Stan Boney in 6th? grade.

Thank you,
Sue Ann Wilson (Koller)

Hi, Connie,

Thanks for being the contact for GHS alumni for our year.  While I don't seem able to get to San Diego when something is happening, I AM scheduled to visit in January.  Any chance of getting together the week of Jan. 5-12 for a coffee?  Are there any scheduled events I could attend?  I sure don't want to wait until the 50th reunion before I get there!

I'll be in SD to do see my dad, and also doing a book signing or two for my latest novel (Druids), although I don't have all the details yet.

I'm really hoping I can connect with you !

Note from Ralph Reed....

Candi and I are in the middle of packing to move to Lake Chelan WA, so we won't be able to make it this time. Candi got a job reporting for the local paper and I will hike/bike and play and maybe get a part-time job at a winery.
Have fun and keep us posted for the other reunions!

Connie - I won't be able to make it to San Diego for the pizza party, but wanted to say 'thank you' to you and Paul for all you are doing to keep up the communication within our class.  I love the website - reading what former classmates are doing brings back so many good memories.

Have a slice for me and hello to all!

Some of you may know that shortly after the class picnic this past August our dear friend and classmate Marcia Kent-Hammett was diagnosed with non-hotchkins lymphoma.  The type of Lymphoma was a particulary rare and severe type.  Marcia has undergone intensive radiation and chemotherapy since her diagnosis with many hospital stays.   What follows is a follow up letter we recieved from Marica over the 4th of July Holiday.  All of us wish Marcia a full and speedy recovery...

Hi Paul,

Thank you for your email

To update my condition, on June 16th I had a bone marrow transplant to "reset
my engine" so to speak.
I have done well with the transplant, however, I did
have a bout with a strep infection but am now on track again. Since I
live about
1-1/2 hours away,  I am staying at the Residence Inn close to Stanford Hospital
until my release
on or about July 17th.  Then I can go home and will only have
to come back to Stanford for periodic visits.
I
can hardly wait to see my house again and sleep in my own bed.  Who knew
such small creature comforts could
be so important.

I hope to be able to travel again in the next few months and hope to come
home to San Diego for a visit.  I miss you all
and have been so sorry I
haven't been able to participate in all the GHS activities.

Looking forward to seeing you all soon.

Marcia

Wow is all I can think of-this website is wonderful, I can’t believe we are the ages we are, yet in my mind I am in my 30’s or younger. However, my body gives me away all the time :o)Just seeing the names of so many that I knew takes me right back to high school. I find it hard to think that it has been almost 42 years since I saw anyone.  My mother passed away from cancer very soon after graduation and I had to move to Los Angeles to live with an older sister. I lost contact with most everyone.  As I looked at the museum pictures, I was amazed that there is so much there.  My parents graduated from Grossmont in 1927, my dad played football for Grossmont.  When I think back to our time at Grossmont it seems that it was a much simpler, innocent time-makes me wish we still had some of that innocence.  Since I live in Colorado and work FT I probably won’t be coming to So.Cali for a while, but I really want to keep in touch and know what is going on. I love to see pictures of friends I knew and everyone sure looks great! Will we ever have another booklet that tells what everyone is doing, etc.? That would be fun.Blessings,Nancee (Nancy) Nancee Carey-Delhousay

I experienced so much joy in reviewing the web site and link you sent.  The pictures are priceless!   So many wonderful faces and names I remember........  I would loved to have made it to the reunion.  and again to the museum opening at Homecoming.  Unfortunately not going to happen.  Yet please keep me posted.  I was so saddened by the many fine people listed in memoriam.... Time waits for no one.  gosh.

Would also like current  a email  for Carol McKee, ( the one listed is defunct)..... if anyone happens to have it? AND
If any of you are in Northern California, San Francisco or Santa Rosa,  please check in.  Would be great to laugh at ole times.

Oh how time has been running away!
We are turning ..60??? you say?
Never thought it would come my way!
But, God willing...I'll be turning 60...
      Some Day!

Grossmont High School...lots of memories!   I wish I could be there for the picnic.
Have been down there twice this year and may need to come again...
It has been wonderful to renew ties w/ Shirley Woodson who has allowed me to stay w/ her
when down there for working at my folks' place.    We (my siblings and I) went to see GHS
in March.   Brought back many memories of Red Robe Choir,  my Brainy  friends who were in French 4 and those in Russian language classes.   Football games.  Gail Griffin...the woman of the year and my long ago neighbor!  Tandem bike rides with Joan Baker and Tina Lowell; Tennis team (below the numbering system);  Miss Barton and  Women's Track ...we went to  State AAU with the  440 Relay!

I live in Portland, OR!  Great place to be!   I love the GREEN here...although we have not had enough rain this summer to keep our grasses green.   Have a daughter in Europe as a missionary.  Have a son who is a CPA and another son who is an Air Balancing Tech.   I'm a nurse...working for Aging and Disability Services here...and I love my garden.  Traveled a lot this year...Germany,  San Diego X2, Canada, Hawaii and planning to get up to Lopez Is in the San Juan's ......ON THE 16th OF AUGUST!
Shucks!  It would be great and interesting to see everyone...
Maybe next time.

My yearbooks were lost to me for >30yrs.   Just found in the attic at my folks last year.  Shirley Woodson and I had great fun going through the annuals and remembering (or not) about each person.
Do enjoy this picnic and THANK YOU CONNIE for keeping us in touch!   :-)  Mary (Sale) Wright

I saw the obit for Sue and really felt sad to hear that she has passed on.  I did notice that family members mentioned in the article did not include her brother George.  Does anyone know what has become of George?  He graduated a few years earlier than Sue.

There are so many people I would like to renew friendships with and will look forward to coming to an event in the near future.  Unfortunately, this year is out of the question for us.  Our daughter just got married in April and there went our vacation fund.  Since we live in Atlanta, Georgia it's not a short trip.

My best to all of those at the picnic this year.

Hi Connie...
I’m very sorry to have to miss the picnic. Our oldest daughter lives in St. Louis
and we are going to visit. Thanks so much for keeping tabs on all of us.
Please give my best to all who are there. Hope to catch up soon

Hi!
I wasn't sure if I would be here Aug. 16th, so I didn't sign on
earlier.  I would like to attend and will go ahead and send the
25 dollars to Paul.  Unfortunately, my dad, Mr. Penny
(Spanish and French teacher) died last October.  I think he
would have enjoyed coming to the party!
See you Saturday,
Mardi (Penny) Musick

Hi Class of 66- Sorry to say that I won't be in town for the picnic as my daughter is being given a bridal shower that day in San Fran.  Wish you all well and hope to see you next time.  Just a quick up date........ I'm still at Helix (and yes the sex scandals are all true + more).  My husband has been retired from the classroom for 4 years and has decided not coach football at Helix this year. We are still located in Bonita and have finally  completed our home remodel and we are enjoying the entire house and yard for the first time in 3 years. In Jan. of this year I had my right hip fully replaced. I had a full recovery and feel about 10 years younger. Our daughter is getting married for the first time and her wedding is a very large event in San Fran in Nov. Our son Aaron is teaching math at Helix (as a temp) but would love to find a job as a hydrologist which is what his degree is in but, Calif has no water! If anyone wants to get a hold of me please
feel free to email me.

UP TO DATE SINCE THE 40TH REUNION
During January 2007, we moved from our home in San Jose to our new home in El Dorado Hills.  These beautiful foothills are below the snowline and above the fog line.  There is a sense of community involvement and an evident care and consciousness for its members and the environment as well.  People are friendly and we have made friends easily through our church, while devouring pastries, soups, and sandwiches at a fantastic European bakery nearby our home, and through our pursuit of fitness, sports, and other personal interest activities.  Also, we have had fun visiting with some of our 1966 classmates who live in this area of Northern Ca!  Neat!  I wish we could attend the August 16TH picnic but other family plans coincide with the same date.   Thank you to our committee members who have accomplished planning another great event for our class.  Wishing all those who attend the picnic a fun day in the sun with all the classmates!   I wish everyone the very best of health and that your lives be filled with laughter, joy, happiness, contentment and new challenges to keep us receptive and sensitive to the humanity in all of us and especially to remain young at heart..God Bless!

Charline Shier-Renner

Hello fellow GHS 66graduates

I moved back to San Diego 16 years ago and actually now live in the same house that I grew up in. I also have divorced but have a beautiful 16 year old son. He is off being a counselor in Ohio right now but will be home in a few days. Will any other 16 year olds be at the picnic? I remember Michael O’Brien and will look forward to seeing him there. I hope we still will have those names tags with the old 1966 pictures on them. We have all changed so much I may not recognize anyone. Anyway, I am looking forward to coming and seeing whoever is there.

Sincerely,

Cindy Maxion

How trippy coming across the class of 66 website!
This is Phil Slimko sayin' hi from Sequim, Washington where I am retired from the Santee Fire Department (2001) and from Real Estate.
I work part time as an Emergency Manager for the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe in Port Angeles,Wa...helping them prepare for earthquakes and tsunamis ect.

Great pics on the web site! Looks like everyone is having fun!

I have 3 beautiful daughters and 2 grandchildren...all doing great. And married to a great gal(better than I deserve).

I must say...I look back with great fondness now on those days at Grossmont and wish everyone all the best. Life was so much simpler then! Great music, girls and beaches/waves that were not so crowded. I loved the Red Robed Choir too. A real shame it bit the dust so long ago. I wanted to take my children and grandchildren to the pagent! Would have spent more time with the books if I had it over to do again, though. Really cool to see Randy Gold in the pics...I remember him well!
Trippy.

Cowabunga,
Phil

Greetings to all my fellow alumni,    I am happy to say that I am flying into San Diego and am looking forward to the picnic on August 16th. Alot has happened in my life since I was at the 40th reunion. Sorry to announce that I am single again. I made a very unwise choice this last time and married an alcoholic and it only lasted 2 years. But, unlike Valerie, I am not willing to give up and say "NEVER AGAIN". Hopefully, the next time I'll get it RIGHT, I'll be "wiser"...we all know I'll be "older".  I will, however, say "NEVER AGAIN"...to drugs and alcohol...so if anybody knows a "STRAIGHT AND HONEST" single guy thats interested in a "STRAIGHT AND HONEST" single girl...I'll include my email.  After my divorce Oct. 2007, I sold my house in El Cajon and moved to Norfolk, VA. My son and his wife are both helicopter pilots in the Navy and are stationed there. Oh, how I miss San Diego! I have been back several times and recently ran into Michael O'Brien. He is a criminal attorney in Juneau, Alaska and has lived there for 30 years. He also spends half of the year at his place in Loreto, Mex. He has been divorced for several years and invited me to go with him up to Alaska. How could I refuse an adventure to go salmon fishing? I told him I would come up for a visit, if he agreed to come to the picnic.  So, if any of you can find any of his old buddies let them know he'll be there. I don't know if any of you remember his little sister, Sarah (she graduated from Grossmont in 1968), I will be staying at her house up there over looking the mouth of the river where the salmon spawn. I'll bring pictures to the picnic. Michael says it is goregous!  We called and talked to Tim Karnowski the other night and asked him to come to the picnic, but he can't make it. However, Bonnie Faddis promised me that she would go with us to the picnic. I am so excited to see everybody that has already signed up to come. See you Aug. 16th!!!     Love to all....Carol (McKee) Sargent....vagrantlady@gmail.com

Hi Guys,
Know you need to get a count of people who will be attending the picnic on August 16th--just to let you know that I will be able to attend this reunion, and am so looking forward to seeing everyone!

My best wishes,

Hi Connie,

I am writing to say thank you again for the work you have done, first with the 40th reunion that had seemed to be dying from neglect and the follow-up activities with the picnics.  They have been good for some of us in many ways.  I enjoy the pictures and commentary, too.  I wonder how many will be 60 by August 16?  Mine was on July 12th.  I don't have the time nor the inclination to feel old, though.  There are just too many things to do yet and too much energy left.  Since the 40th, much has happened;  three trips to South America (Ecuador & Argentina) and one back to Uganda to visit our African kids in the school there.  I have also been to Stanford University four times in the last year with our 15 year old grandson, Joseph, who is going through heart surgeries.  He has at least one more to go, sometime in the next 6 months. He is my hero and most courageous man I have known.  That is where I am now, taking a hospital break and catching up on notes that I have intended to send for some time.  I don't know if I will make the picnic again this year, though I would like to.  I may just get a last minute, wild inspiration, jump on the motocycle and show up.  If I'm back in Phoenix and being that it is mid-August, it might need to be a night ride. :o))))

Also, I have been trying to send my name and this e-mail address in for inclusion in the contact list, but it keeps bouncing.  That may result from my techno-illiteracy or this new lap-top.  What ever the cause, can you have the information added?  David Couchman,
dacouchman@hotmail.com

Thanks for everything and if you have a moment, it would be nice to here how life is going with you and any of our classmates.

I found the website and the invitation to the picnic in August, unfortunately
I’ll be out of town.  I have a small place in Montana where we spend a few
weeks every year.  Eventually we’ll retire there.  I don’t know what I’d do if I
did retire, so it might be a while before we are full time Montanans.
We were up there during the 40th reunion, too
 Please share my email address

Hi, everyone!  I live in Mesa, AZ, at the moment.  Sorry that I haven't been able to make it to the get-togethers so far, but I'll be there in spirit at this year's picnic.  Have a great time, and somebody please have a cheeseburger with the works for me!

From Val Shields:  It does not
surprise me to see Arlene Simmons and Alex Mincks together and
"peeking out" from behind everyone else in the recent picnic
photos...those two "characters" were always "up to something!"
Arlene was the one who talked me into getting my very first
kiss from Alex... in 7th grade, no less!
Actually, I was delighted to see Alex at the 40th reunion,
and very sorry that Arlene was not there.
Love to both of you if you read this.  Val
